Brilliant quote from Welsh Assembly member, Peter Black AM, justifying the Lib Dims in Westminster breaking their manifesto pledge and abstaining on the vote for a referendum on the Lisbon Treaty:
The Lib Dems promised a referendum on the constitution not the Lisbon Treaty. The Treaty is not the constitution.

Monkeys and humans have 95% of their DNA in common but that does not make us monkeys.
Nice try Peter but ...
In addition to the great apes, the family Hominidae includes our species, Homo sapiens. In the past, there also were other species of humans as well as hominids more similar to us than the chimpanzees and bonobos today.
If it looks like a fish and moves like a fish, it's probably not a cow.

As it happens it humans and chimpanzees who share 95% of DNA (and possibly other apes).

'Monkeys' are far more distantly related.

So his analogy is rubbish anyway.

The Lisbon Treaty is the Constitutional Treaty in everything but name.

Some how the government managed to get away with avoiding the promised referendum, by saying over and over again, that it was not the same treaty.

If we had a stronger and more vigorous opposition in Westminster, the government could never have got away with such trickery.

A referendum was promised in the 2005 Labour manifesto, but Gordon Brown refused to give Britain its promised referendum.

The voters should punish Gordon Brown at the first opportunity they get.

A huge chunk of our sovereignty was given away in the Lisbon Treaty.

The voters should never forgive Gordon Brown for the damage he has done to the British condtitution.
